deBuren (the neighbors) is a cultural organization that promotes Flemish-Dutch cultural exchange through debates, lectures, performances, and wide range of written and auditory media. Focused on topics affecting the lowlands and Europe at large, deBuren also produces a multitude of projects including writers residencies, knowledge exchanges, and literature podcasts.
I worked with the team at Vruchtvlees to refresh the existing logo and amplify the house motif into a flexible, recognizable brand. Simple but accomodating, the house element becomes a delineation of space, a framework and even a punchy pattern.
For a complex website with a multitude of content types, hierarchies, and filters, bright colours and clear labelling allow the content to be navigated easily and explored in depth.
The deBuren house motif is carried throughout the site in patterns, frames, and small angular elements.
To energize and modernize the existing brand, we amplified the colours, choose clear and approachable typefaces, and created a suite of patterns that capture the multi-faceted ways in which deBuren promotes social and cultural exchange.
